| 제이슨 황 프로필보기 | June 10th 2011 KBC Relay Interview / 2011년 7월 7일 KBC 릴레이인터뷰 “게임산업에 대한 이야기 / About the Gaming Industry” NEXON 해외사업 개발팀 / Overseas Business Development Team at NEXON 인터뷰 진행자: 김혁범 (Hyuk Kim, SNE&Partners Inc. 대표) |
English Original Translated by Dennis OhHyuk Kim: Hi Jason, I know that you been in the States for a while. What did you study there and why did you want to come back to Korea? for working? Or did you ever thought living in the US for the rest of your life? Jason Hwang: Yes, I grew up in Los Angeles & New Jersey when I was young, and after finishing up high school here in Korea, went back to the States to study Psychology at Michigan State University. I guess at the time I wanted to live in the US, but I had to come back to Korea for the mandatory army service. Hyuk Kim: Does that makes your life changed? Hyuk Kim: OK let’s talk about what you are doing. You are in game industry. I think you have a lot to talk about what you are doing for your career. Please share something with us. Hyuk Kim: I know it’s already big industry. But Why game industry is getting bigger? Is most of your target audience young generation? Hyuk Kim: Right, that’s one of “HALLYU” (Korean Wave) Koreans are very proud of. Hyuk Kim: I know that you are working with various offices globally; which market is most important? And what will be the new market you have to explore? Jason Hwang: I guess any market that generates revenue would be the most important market for us. Currently Nexon has around 30 games being serviced in over 70 countries worldwide, and our games are showing great performance in countries like US, China, Japan, and in some parts of SEA. There are still many new game markets out there that we would like to explore, and regions such as Russia, Turkey, Middle East, Latin America would be some examples. Hyuk Kim: Last question that I’m curious… What do you think of SNG? Is that your competitor model/platform or your company also creating theses type of games? If so, Just wondering why there’s no #1 SNG or game apps made in Korea? I’m saying because Korea is most developed high-tech country. Jason Hwang: I don’t think SNG model is that much of a threat to us yet, as we have much more hardcore online game users than people that actually play SNG in Korea. I think SNG has especially become very big in the US thanks to the Facebook boom, but you have to consider the fact that ‘online games’, in other words client downloadable games are still a very new thing to the US gamers, and there are a lot more SNG user there. Hyuk Kim: Hope you enjoyed this conversation and look forward attending more conversation at KBC. Jason Hwang: Thanks! |

Permalink Reply by Dennis Oh on July 7, 2011 at 5:35pm 인터뷰 내용 잘 읽었습니다.
Permalink Reply by Jay Juhyung Kim on July 31, 2011 at 11:46pm SNG의 단순성이 오히려 더 중독성 있는 것 같아요..

Jason - Thanks for the interview, though I wish it could have been much longer! Thus, I have a few questions based on your very interesting background.
It seems very unusual for someone to grow up in the US, then go through high school in Korea, before returning again to the US for university. The Korean high schools are focused on college entrance to Korean universities; what was it like to go through Korean high school without the lower-grade background OR a plan to go to Korean university? And if you've lived most of your life in the US, why do you still hold on to your Korean citizenship even though it meant having to do military service here? I'd be interested in your personal identification with one country or the other... my son will have to make such a decision someday too!
In your job, are you able to travel much? Or do you mainly do the overseas business promotion work online?
