I thought I'd post an update on my E-7 progress: both to get advice, as well as to map out the ups and downs for future applicants.

Current status- they've asked our company to re-apply for my visa using a different job description. Immigration has stated that there is no E-7 visa available for corporate trainers (although the job categories they list on http://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/en/info/popup/icis/e_7_pop_en.html seem to contradict that).

I'm curious: what visa are corporate trainers in Korea on, if not self employed (D-8), married (F-2), or on and F-4 visa? Any thoughts? Is it simply not a possible occupation here? Many thanks for any advice! It is a bit frustrating.

Gotta love immigration!   The person who translated the categories into English is apparently NOT the same person (or in communication with the person) who handles visa processing.  How frustrating!

re: visas that can "do anything" -another option is F-5

I think it's great that you're documenting the whole process -it's definitely a value-add to KBC ^.^

Ah yes- F5! Or the new F2-S......lots of things I almost qualify for :) I'm hoping to know what the straightforward route would be for a corporate trainer.

Joshua,

I suggest you get linked up with Lawrence Smith who is the VP for Global Learning & Development (corporate training etc...) for LGE. He might be a great resource for you and your comany's immigration red-tape.

Thanks for the suggestion William! I've sent him a message on LinkedIn as we're connected on there. I'm also very open to other suggestions.
Could you just change your job description to something that's on the list, say, "Educational Director" or "Information Director" or something?
Thanks Steven- that's the route that the immigration officer himself suggested... I'm hoping it works, although it seems slightly less than honest...and a bit funny as there is a professional trainer classification (25919)- I'm hoping it works. Cheers!

That doesn't seem dishonest to me. It's not like you're going to go out and start driving a taxi... You'll be directing education and information.

Looking at the Korean titles for 25919, it appears they are targeting that for people in a school/institute setting, rather than a corporate setting. Even "professional trainer" there means someone who works with other educators.
