JD - You're my hero for the day! Wow... That's a priceless report! I mean, really valuable for all those job seekers out there... This discussion is definitely going onto the KBC Get a Job page here: http://www.koreabusinesscentral.com/page/topic-central-get-a-job-in

I know you're getting closer to your goal.... Fighting!! (or in Korea-speak)... Whiting!!

Thanks Steven,

KBC has been a big help and it's awesome to be on the "Get A Job" page.  It's been a great resource that has helped with my job hunt.

Thank you very much for this valuable information! I´m currently looking for jobs in Korea, it is hard but I know it is not impossible! ..

Hope you can get a job here in Korea soon (I´m currently studying here and about to finish).

If helpful for you or someone else that will read, LG is recruiting foreigners now, they came to my University and are visiting many Universities here; application is online.  Attached the information.

Good luck!

Hi Sara,

Yes, it's very hard! It's good to hear from others out there. Thanks for sharing this job posting and good luck!

You´re welcome and good luck to you too!

Hi Sara,

Do you also have the job application for the LG recruitment posting?

Hi JD!

Yes I have it, I will send you my email address in a message, and I will reply back with the form attached.

Rgds,

Well done JD.

Thanks William,

You're the man. I wish I listened to your job interview podcast earlier~!

Interesting experience, JD. Thanks for sharing. As you go forward in your job search keep a couple things in mind: 1.) companies other than 대기업 (Chaebol) hire foreign employees, 2.) some of those companies will not require you to grow accustomed to the sort of Korean corporate culture you described in your post. I've worked at the Korean subsidiary of a major PR consulting firm and at a 100-person locally-owned software company in Korea. It gets intense sometimes (especially when working on a major deadline or preparing for a conference) but I don't find that I'm working all that much more than I did back in Washington, DC.

Hi Erik,

I agree. I had an interview with a small foreign owned consulting firm in Korea and the culture was more relaxed. I applied to US companies like Blizzard Entertainment, which is similar to my previous company's culture (DivX).

Thanks for sharing :) I'll be at KMA today.

BTW when Hyundai and Kia post openings (usually once a year) for these expat positions, they immediately get so many applicants they quickly stop taking new applicant. So, for those interested, act fast.

What's more amazing is the the number of Korean applicants each year for entry level positions at Hyundai and Kia--more that 40,000. And, those recent grads have high GPA, high ESL scores, and come from only the top schools--those without such not even trying...
