Hello fellow KBC Members,
I'm currently in the midst of transitioning to an E-7 visa (working for a training/consulting company), and the paperwork is deceptively straightforward. I have my sponsor and all the required documents lined up, but beyond that I am wondering if anyone has suggestions/advice that will help make the process smoother and increase the odds of my application being accepted.
Many thanks in advance for taking a look and happy 설날!

I have been on an E-7 for the the last threee years and it is very simple and once the time comes to renew it the process takes ten min at immigration.
However, from experience of a previous employer who owned a hwagwan and then opened a publishing company, was told that because of his initial busines registration purpose, that foreigners could not qualify for E-7, only E-2. But I did have to visit out of Korea to change visa types; which I was told could take up to five business days. Luckly, my boss had connections with the dilomat in Vietnam. So traveled to Hanoi and it was ready the next day.
That is the only thing I would have my employer check with the proper authorities etc..
Take care,
William
Hi Joshua,
I am also in the middle of applying for an E-7 visa. The Hi-Korea website is pretty useful, has all the information there. The documents needed will depend on what type of occupation you will be doing.
From my understanding, your employer will send your qualifications/documents to the immigration office in Korea and then a 'certificate of visa issuance' will be issued.
Once you get the certificate (or number) you just bring this to the Embassy and get your visa.
Let us know how it goes!

@Daniel: This issue of "how to prove" that I'm not taking someone's job is the only gray area- beyond certifications/degree + resume + letter of invitation I am wondering if there is anything else that can be included to help "prove" need, especially as the training category doesn't require any other ministry approval (unlike some jobs under the E-7 net).
@Marissa: Good luck with your visa too! I like the HiKorea site...it's interesting to see all the categories that qualify: http://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/en/info/popup/icis/e_7_pop_en.html
MANY thanks for all your help!
Permalink Reply by Joshua Davies on February 4, 2011 at 10:52am BTW: do any of have experience with the "Letter of personal reference document notarized by the Notary Public in Korea ( 신원보증서 ), Official form no. 129" ? It's mentioned in some lists of required E-7 documents and on the HiKorea page is listed just as a "reference".
It appears to be another way to gain a character/reference recommendation? Or is it just the same as the single "guarantor" letter that needs to be provided by the employer basically saying he/she will pay for you/take responsibility for you? Cheers!
Just a question, are you applying inside Korea? I have been reading older posts from other members and it seems the process is a little random.
For example, some members have said that they were able to apply for a visa status change inside Korea, which is not technically allowed for under the rules.
I also found when I extended my visa last time, it was very simple (didn't need to complete some of the pre-requisites). I don't know why that was, maybe luck of the draw.
Oh, I want a gold card access!
I will be starting a legal position in Korea in 2 weeks. The dilemma for me is: I don't have enough time to apply for e-7 (thanks to Seolnal!). So I was also searching options for what I might do.
I was considering applying for a c-4 visa, but I am not sure if it is applicable. Would be great if I could just apply inside Korea, which I think I can do, but that is not guaranteed...
Does any one have suggestions??
Permalink Reply by Joshua Davies on February 4, 2011 at 3:18pm My application is a fresh one, hence the dilemma. Unless I can some how fast-track my application through the Immigration Office, don't know what to do. Still thinking of plan B.
In any case, just some information for anyone on a long-term employment visa. You may be eligible for a F-2 residency permit. I understand new rules were brought in last year, and you will be eligible if you get above 80 points under the prescribed table.
The points above mentioned are determined by education, proficiency in Korean language, salary of occupation etc. Might be worth having a look at.
