Hi members,

Here is an interesting article on Korea Immigration Service’s new visa for skilled foreign workers. Check it out and let us know any thoughts you have.

Thanks, Marissa.

I did not know about this visa and it's an interesting addition to the existing visa selection that Korea offers. Indeed, looking at how many more options we have now compared with 10-15 years ago, it is clear that Korea is really moving quickly in the right direction. I hope they keep it up!
It definitely is a positive move! However, as the article suggests, the criteria may prove to be an issue. To look at it objectively though yes, the criteria may seem hard to meet but it would be no different to countries like Australia, where we have high visa standards/criteria (some may even say impossible!). I guess we can't expect it to be handed to us on a silver platter...

In any case, the F-2-7 visa requirements are open to adjustment. It will be interesting to see what changes, if any, will be made in the future.
The criteria didn't look very tough to me. I mean, it won't let people enter the country and get the visa right off, but it's certainly achievable if someone sticks to the plan.

As you pointed out, other countries have much tougher criteria.

The article also mentioned a Korean Immigration and Integration Program. I'd never heard of that before; has anyone else here gone through that? What's it like?
I might have misread the article, but I did not get the sense that one's managerial level (e.g., Korea CEO, Country Manager, etc.) would necessarily put you ahead in the points category or somehow fast-track you into getting an F-2-7 visa. It seemed that most of the criteria were on non work-related factors such as age, Korean language ability, etc.

Although the KR government would never advertise this publicly, it would not surprise me if country-of-origin plays a role here. I have seen other countries where certain nationalities (esp those in high demand) would be given preferential treatment when it comes to long-term visas and PRs, if they have the necessary skill sets and managerial/executive level.

Any thoughts on this (from KBC members)?
