I finally completed the D-8 renewal process today at immigration and successfully received one year renewal. Two surprising small details:
I didn't get the new ARC card which I thought was now mandatory. Instead they just added to my five-year-old, beat-up card with my face is almost worn off.
More alarming, they don't actually issue a visa anymore!!!! They just told me that it's now kept "in the system". After all the hassle I've had just to get this renewal, I didn't feel up to challenging them on this point.
Anyone else received an "in-the-system" visa these days? Is this like an electronic visa? If so, how can I check the dates on the e-visa?
BTW, you posted recently a rumor that the capital requirements for setting up a new company and getting an E-8 (?) visa will be increasing from 100 million won to 300 million won. I have it on good authority (a consultant in the Office of the Foreign Investment Ombudsman) that this is not a rumor; it's a done deal for the latter part of the year. Apparently the government's tired of people (mainly from other Asian countries) bringing the money over to get a visa without any intention of actually doing business....
So, if you're planning to start a company in Korea with less than 300 million won, there's no better time for it than the present!
