This past Saturday (2011/02/19), 3 adventurous members of KBC (from various regions of the globe) convened at Gangnam Stn at 13:00'ish.
...in a word it was ELECTRIFYING!!!
Thus, the Korean expression to denote what we did translates rather well ^.~
Liam, Campbell & myself (Lara) had "quasi-intended" to take one aspect of one of our on-line discussions OFF-LINE & turn it into some semblance of a brain storming session ...and what resulted was something FAR better!
In a relatively brief period of time we established an energizing rapport amongst us all & enjoyed a dynamically flowing exchange of information and, most importantly, IDEAS...
Above all else, we had FUN^.^
Hopefully Campbell will soon be able to post the visual record of what resulted. Hopefully, the variety of places our conversation wandered will inspire you to either start one of your own -or to show up at one in the future.
All of us agreed that doing this sort of thing on a regular basis would be a useful form of making our on-line interactions more real -putting actual people within the words we all share in various KBC discussion threads. Who knows what sort of business-related endeavours & networking this sort of spontaneous "meeting of minds & hearts" could lead to? ...the potential is virtually unlimited!
I want to encourage anyone who stumbles across this thread to initiate a KBC Lightning Meeting of your own ~and if possible make some sort of record of the event (video, audio, pictoral, written -whatever) & post it here to share the fun ^.^
remember: there are no rules!
Thanks for starting this Lara.
I agree that our infromal meeting was good for a number of reasons:
These are just a few that spring to mind, there are many more though. One of the main reasons for this site (Steven correct me if I'm wrong) is true business networking.
I hope that I can meet other members in the near future.
It was a pleasure to meet you both Lara and Campbell.

Lara, Liam and Campbell - I am really excited that you organized this event on the fly. Such a spontaneous effort to meet and network is, as Liam said, very well matched to the vision of KBC.
Thanks again for that... May there be many more!!
Here are the snapshots of our whiteboard that I took with my phone (please excuse the quality) ^.~
...anybody care to take a stab at how it's all connected?
...it turned out that all of us were there with the simple intention of meeting other KBC members face-to-face^.^
The "real, live human" factor was the draw ...not the discussion thread ~that simply served as the "platform" (excuse) for convening ^.~

Scott on February 22, 2011 at 10:51pm OK, so trying to wrap a little more meaning into what Lara, Liam and I did on Saturday is NOT straightforward, however - I have added some colour tags to it all which may help to group things. Everyting has an interrelation regardless of wether or not you physically see an arrow connecting it.
There is much more meaning in some of these 'idea bubbles' for Liam and Lara and myself, so don't let that disrupt you from thinking about what points YOU think we were talking about and what some of the stranger things mean...if you ask us more questions we will elaborate for you.
I have to agree that an online community is great for afar, but the ability and willingness to meet and discuss, to bring together to form the 'idea factory' is so important and I reccomend to anyone to make the time to attend a lightning meeting, you won't necessaryily solve world poverty...but there might be an insight that someone else has that you have not thought about that relates to your exact problem or thinking regarding your business plans and activities.
Unfortunately I am going to be unable to attend one for a while as I am back in London as of Saturday - so Eun-Shil, perhaps we can organise a Euro get together?
