We're planning a five-day family vacation to Jeju Island this year. Will drive down to the ferry terminal at Wando Island on August 14 (Visit in Google maps.), put our car onto the ferry and arrive in Jeju about 3-4 hours later.

We were a little late making reservations on accommodations, but we think we've found a decent spot near Sogwipo here at 앙끄리에편션 to spend four nights before heading back.

The last time we were in Jeju was for our honeymoon fourteen years ago and as we'd spent all our money on the wedding, we ended up taking the very cheapest tour option possible for the trip. Our tour took us around to place after place where we were pitched to buy thing after thing.... This time, we're looking forward to being masters of our own itinerary!

So, what are your plans for summer vacation in Korea? Got somewhere great to recommend for next year?

I took a nice leisurely drive up the east coast of the peninsula over the last five days - stopping when and where I chose. I started in Changwon (near Busan) and bumped along the coast all the way up to just south of Goseong (a little too close to N. Korea in my opinion) but I was the captain! I spent a couple of days in Donghae on Songnam Beach where I abused my skin to the point where I am reminiscent of a New England broiled lobster right now!

What a beautiful drive!

Wow, you really got up north! I've never been that far... And that's a beautiful drive up the East Coast... I remember a couple years ago we were driving along looking for a place to spend the night near Yeongdok. Ended up finding a fabulous location with a boiled crab feast.. well, straight from Russia (it wasn't crab season in Korea then so they were importing)...

Can you post your favorite photo here of the trip?

A perfect summer get away should start from Insandong in Seoul if you have passion for the arts. The last time I was there was when the Monet art exhibition show was staged in 2007, it was the best art show I had seen in Korea.
Also visit various surrounding palaces...wrapped that up to enjoy the ever busy Itaewon! Great shopping experience there.

And then, my favorite city in the whole of the Country....Sokcho city! Yes I know...way up North!
I can't wait till I have a chance to repeat all the good memories of my summer of 2007!
I can do without Itaewon, but Insadong and Sokcho are both great in their own ways.
Oh, I've been to this place! Very nice. If you love Sokcho, though, you must try the cold noodle there ('냉면'). They use spicy seasoned fish meat as seasoning for the noodle.
Yes you are right Sang...I had the cold noodle there as well. It was spicy...at the same time...tasty. I played soccer for one of the cities club...Sorak Soccer Club...and whenever we finished practicing; sahona follows and so is cold noodles!
Awesome!!! I one time drove up to Sokcho from Seoul with my wife just to have that cold noodle. It was a silly idea, but couldn't simply forget the taste. But good news though... I found a noodle shop near where I live (Bundang) that does the noodle just like the place in Sokcho. Gotta go and check out the taste!
I had a great time around Andong (Gyeongbuk, a classic destination if any), and stayed in different places including Hahoe Village, which the very same day made it to the UNESCO World Heritage List... I guess all it took was a VIP visitor : Queen Beth the Second tried back in '99 but it wasn't enough.

;)
Oh...did I mention Soraksan? One of the highest mountains in South Korea...the view of the city from the top of the mountain is quite spectacular!
Yes, Soraksan is a winner destination, too!
