As many of you might know, by March 18, Homefront will be hitting the shelves of most video game retailers around the world.
Homefront is an upcoming first-person shooter game set in a near future America in 2027 when a now-nuclear armed Korean People's Army invades the USA, which has undergone a huge economic downfall.
I was curious about how often was North Korea used as a theme for a video game setting and it turns out that it has been used more often than I thought.
If you are interested in reading about this, check out the post in my blog, it has plenty of pictures and covers all the games I could find:
North Korea depictions through video game history - Guzmán Díaz
If you know about any other games featuring a similar theme let me know and I will update the post giving you credit for the collaboration.

Permalink Reply by Wally Nes on April 7, 2011 at 2:38pm Just finished playing Crysis again to comfort myself that my laptop can't run Crysis2 (which doesn't have anything to do with our northern neighbours). Awesome game.
From that list games I had played but hadn't consciously picked up they were in/against/featuring NK:
A10, silent thunder (which, if you've ever heard the plane in question, is a total misnomer)
JSF
Falcon 4.0
which are, coincidentally, the only games in that list I've played.
I didn't really pay attention to the story lines of video games until recently.
What ratings did homefront end up scoring? I heard the single player campaign wasn't all that

On Metacritic the game got a 70 average on critic (web+magazine) reviews, though analyzing the scores properly (that is not counting the outliers which are most likely biased) I believe it's more close to 75-80 than 70. As for the user score, I see too many "haters" voting 0, so the final result (6.2) is probably biased too.
I only played a few minutes at the local FNAC center, which had it on demo, it looked like a pretty solid shooter, but didn't feel very different from the rest of the shooters that are coming out these days. I'd say wait until its price goes down before buying.
