Dear L Chin,  Sorry for late reply, I've been traveling for the past weeks. No simple answer. First some of the K Groups are very global and have a number of women in key positions, others are less global, more old school, with few expats…

When you do cultural training, do you have an overarching understanding of what it is to be a person and then use specific examples of America or Korea or as the case may be?  I ask this question since Hyundai and Kia employees get transfered…

Interesting take on the Korea mobile OEMs delaying any launch of the iPhone... to gain a competitive advantage. Thanks. I'm wondering if the Korean OEMs thought Koreans would favor their smartphones over Apple's?

What is the nature of your involvement with Korea and/or Korean business? / 주로 어떤 직종의 비즈니스에 종사하였습니까?
Professionally I wear many hats, but most of my work is sharing with global non-Korean teams and leadership insights into Korean business. Most of this work is for Hyundai Kia's worldwide network. I provide onsite and computer-based training and coaching. Lots of other Korea projects, too, but most outside Korea. For an avocation, I write extensively about Korean history and culture.

As a social historian interested in what has brought westerners to Korea over the past 125 year, I am curious in your story. Please share.

I plan to soon post my 35 + year interest in Korea. I'll include some cool pictures of me in Korea in the 1980s.

Korean Language Skills Research Project: Novices Welcome

Posted on December 5, 2009 at 3:19pm 5 Comments

One of my longtime Korean friends has a request. I hope you support this project. All that required is some Korean language training.... novices welcome.

Don Southerton

I am Yongjoon Cho, PhD student at USC. The experiment is a part of my

dissertation. Its purpose is to help me better understand the

acquisition of the Korean language as one’s second language, and how

it is related to the knowledge of one’s native language. I know that

there is a…

Don,

Could you assist me with posting the following on your blog?

A unique survey on Global Mindset and Leadership is part of a doctoral dissertation in business at Lawrence Technological University, MI designed to assess the characteristics and behavioral implications of a global mindset to business leaders.

It takes 10 minutes to complete the survey available at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/R26NM57

The survey is relevant to managers, supervisors, program/project directors, and senior business leaders who work with foreign nationals and people of other cultures, conduct business transactions with partners and companies in other countries, and have experience in international assignments and operating across cultures and countries.

Please complete the survey in 7 days if possible and forward this information to your friends, business colleagues and associates who might be interested in participating.

Results of the study will be available upon request.Thank you for your participation. Georgine (Gyongyi) Konyu Fogel

Hi Don,
It's great to see you here too. I was in Pyongyang last September, leading a group of media people (TIME, NPR, BBC, etc). See more photos on my International Association for Contemporary Korea Studies blog here... http://iacks.spaces.live.com/
People tell me that the ROK government has blocked it. Please let me know if you cannot access it from where you are.
Best regards,

Hi Don,

We have not gone beyond writing several pieces for the Korea Times series on nation branding. Communications with the new presidential committee have not produced results.

Thanks
