James Devereux replied to Johnathan Noone's discussion Teaching to business - is it possible?
"That's extremely impressive Steve. I think I would be very tempted to submit my assignments in English if given the option, for I know that my Korean writing skills leave a lot to be desired. One last question, were you able to do the program…"

James Devereux replied to Johnathan Noone's discussion Teaching to business - is it possible?
"That's amazing that you decided to go for submitting tests and taking assignments in Korean. I remember you saying that you felt you know only about 10% of the language in one of your blog posts, did this not greatly hold you back in your…"

"Hi Christopher   That's a great success story and an example of how long term planning and sticking at something really pays off. You found what you were after, went for it and got it. I can only hope that I will be able to follow a…"

James Devereux replied to Johnathan Noone's discussion Teaching to business - is it possible?
"Thanks for the advice, Steve. Can you recommend a school and do you know if there are scholarships available at all? Also I presume that the lectures were in Korean but that you had easy access to the material in English. While my Korean is fluent,…"

James Devereux replied to Johnathan Noone's discussion Teaching to business - is it possible?
"Thanks for the advice Steve. I suppose calling companies and speaking with someone directly would be the best way to show that I am a capable communicator in Korean and that I am serious. My experience in Korea makes me think that I'll likely…"

James Devereux replied to Johnathan Noone's discussion Teaching to business - is it possible?

James Devereux replied to Steven S. Bammel's discussion Best Korean Language Books in the group Korean Language Learners

James Devereux replied to Steven S. Bammel's discussion Best Korean Language Books in the group Korean Language Learners
"I taught myself Korean to fluency in under two years without a teacher, and I do not consider myself to be a genius. It is easily doable if you make interacting with Korean people a regular part of your daily life and you study everyday, with good…"

What is the nature of your involvement with Korea and/or Korean business? / 주로 어떤 직종의 비즈니스에 종사하였습니까?
I have been in Korea for 4 years, living and teaching English at all levels in Daejeon. I currently teach conversational English at a university near Daejeon. I have spent a major part of my time here integrating into Korean culture by spending time with Koreans and studying the language, which I speak fluently and teach to Expats in Daejeon in a Korean course I designed myself.

The time I have invested into learning the language and experiencing the culture first-hand has paid off in terms of the number of good Korean friends and contacts I have made in Daejeon.

I am looking to move away from teaching English and move to Seoul in September 2012 to seek a job in marketing or sales, potentially into helping UK firms break into the Korean market which is even more accessible since the recent EU-Korea FTA.

Before this date I am seeking an internship in marketing or sales at a Korean company in Daejeon on Seoul.

At university I majored in Psychology and was PR Officer for our Taekwondo club during the Student Nationals Taekwondo Tournament in 2006 which gave me valuable experience in PR.

Since coming to Korea I have also written about learning Korean for the Korea Herald and kept a blog of tips on how to learn Korean at http://koreanasitis.wordpress.com

I welcome everyone to contact me about advice with learning Korean which I am always happy to offer.
