Joel Monkarsh replied to Steven S. Bammel's discussion New Korea Economic Slice - “How Koreans Make a Ton of Money Reporting Fellow Citizens”
"Not especially surprising given what I saw in Korea in the 1990's. The beginning program is corruption.  North American corruption is more subtle and the crime is more violent than the Korean version."

My wife and I are considering relocating back to Korea after 12 year absence. My wife is a Korean national and we live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I lived in Korea for 6 years. My wife would like to set up a language institute and I would like to continue with a business I will set up in Korea while teaching at her institute.

I am trying to determine to whom we would be paying taxes on both sides of the Pacific. I worked in Korea under E1 and E2 visa status, something I would never want to do again, so I am looking the practicality of obtaining F6 visa status and later converting it to F5 status, as I am looking for the closest thing Korea has to a green card. I know that 90% of business success is your connections, so I believe that many of questions can be answered on this forum. I am not entirely going into Korea as merely an ESL instructor, so I am looking for the maximum amount of business freedom possible.
