Robert Eberenz replied to Steven S. Bammel's discussion 'New Korea Economic Slice - Robert Eberenz, "Is Korea Really the Younger Smarter Brother of China?”'
Long term the U.S. must look beyond consumer spending for a source of economic growth. I think we're seeing consumer expectations changing now, as they have been for the past few years, but the real difficulty will be the expectations related…

Absolutely... There is very little transparency in China... period. External oversight is limited at best. I think you have three factors at work with China. (1) China realizes the issues surrounding the negative environmental externalities that…

Thanks for your response Steven! I think you're point about China maintaining control is a very valid one, however I also think that most people underestimate just how cognizant the PRC leadership actually is of the sentiment of their populace.…

Meant to read... "not impossible that technological gains will compensate for reduced real estate development and consumption due to slower population growth."

Aaron, thanks for the comment!   1) I believe that China and Korea are in for very different situations with population growth. As was mentioned below by Steven, China does actually have a great deal of natural resources on the mainland and are…

You raise a good point Carl... Certainly freedom of expression is very much suppressed in China, and this has certainly had negative effects on the quality of life, upward mobility, and creative generation in China. I think it depends on…

Greece, Greece, Greece… Is that Papa guy ever going to get his act together and accept a check from the EU? is it 45 billion or 100 billion Euros now? What’s the deal with these riots in Athens?

Chances are you have answers to these questions, and a few extra cents to contribute to the discussion. Frankly, that’s what the comment box is for, so we won’t waste time on the issue beyond these next few words.

Greece will be bailed out by the European Union because the Euro is… Continue

Thanks for your charitable words inre: my site. I only wish I had more time to devote to it. You've got one humdinger of a site there yourself, and I look forward to your future writings.

As to your question, I'm still working on some of my own research over at KDI these days, and trying to decide where to go from here (that timeless question). I'm interested in the fields of economic and political development, but really not enthused about an academic career. Hence, "where to go from here?"

I see (on your site) that you attended Clemson. Did you have the opportunity to study with Bruce Yandle, by chance? I've enjoyed some of his writings and interviews.

Best,
Aaron
