Tyler Joyner replied to Steven S. Bammel's discussion New Korea Economic Slice - Cory Olson, "The Pitfalls of High-Price Tuition”
"An interesting piece, but short on facts.  Unions are not exactly the most unbiased organizations and I don't see any statistics in the article, nor are there any easily available on the NUS website.  I'm unsure of the usefulness…"

Tyler Joyner replied to Steven S. Bammel's discussion New Korea Economic Slice - Cory Olson, "The Pitfalls of High-Price Tuition”
"It's an interesting situation.  Then again, with increased outsourcing of middle-level jobs globally combined with on-going replacement of people with machines, I would think that there is or soon will be a surplus of college-educated…"

Tyler Joyner replied to Steven S. Bammel's discussion New Korea Economic Slice - Cory Olson, "The Pitfalls of High-Price Tuition”
"Good article Cory.  I haven't done a lot of independent research of my own, but certainly your evidence and the conclusions you draw do seem to stand up pretty well. The educational system in Korea strikes me in some ways as comparable to…"

Tyler Joyner replied to Campbell J. Scott's discussion Will young South Koreans watch 'unification TV'?
"Most of the Koreans I know I met while they were studying English in the US, so my impression may be inaccurate if certain types of young Koreans in particular tend to travel to the US post-college to learn English.  That being said, I have yet…"

Tyler Joyner replied to Simon Hoggett's discussion Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone is hiring
"I'm guessing the timeline for the application process isn't accurate?"

Tyler Joyner replied to vince rubino's discussion What is your favorite Makgeolli?
"Man, who needs a favorite when you can drink them all!  Makgeolli is awesome, as long as you don't mind the hangovers."

Tyler Joyner replied to Morgane Gourvennec's discussion Visa for internship in korea
"Umm well to be honest my experience is all in Finance and in the US, but as far as I know, that's how it works, yes.   Because of the short amount of time involved in an internship (usually a summer), and also because the interns often…"

Tyler Joyner replied to Morgane Gourvennec's discussion Visa for internship in korea
"Still, the point of an internship is to locate and develop potential future employees.  I guess you could argue that giving those companies a "free trial" by way of unpaid internships might encourage them to later hire a proven…"

Tyler Joyner replied to Steven S. Bammel's discussion Korea Business Central Exclusive Interview - Dick Warmington, "Uncovering Korean Potential at Chadwick School in Korea's New City of Songdo"
"Vince - If you're saying that I'm unquestioningly accepting marketing and lobbying ploys, then you've moved past debate and assumed that since I disagree with you I must be too stupid to have formed my own opinions.   Why does…"

Tyler Joyner replied to Steven S. Bammel's discussion Korea Business Central Exclusive Interview - Dick Warmington, "Uncovering Korean Potential at Chadwick School in Korea's New City of Songdo"
"That is assuming that Chadwick's method is inherently going to result in lower exam scores, which, although possible, is not a safe assumption.  It's also assuming that    There are of assumptions embedded in your comment…"

Tyler Joyner replied to Steven S. Bammel's discussion Here's Why Jeju Island Might Just Be Worthy of Becoming One of the New Seven Natural Wonders of the World
"Dude you have to go to Udo.  It's a short ferry ride from Jeju and it's super cool - a tiny little fishing island with very little tourism.  We went to the most nondescript little restaurant we could find and I had my first 문어…"

Tyler Joyner replied to Steven S. Bammel's discussion Korea Business Central Exclusive Interview - Dick Warmington, "Uncovering Korean Potential at Chadwick School in Korea's New City of Songdo"
"That's kind of a non-response, and calling it "trickle down education" is a fairly obvious straw man argument.  Trickle down economics is predicated upon the belief (assumption) that when rich people spend more money, poor people…"

Tyler Joyner replied to Steven S. Bammel's discussion Korea Business Central Exclusive Interview - Dick Warmington, "Uncovering Korean Potential at Chadwick School in Korea's New City of Songdo"
"You can't build a school and then hope demand rises to meet the supply they've created.  It was mentioned elsewhere on KBC that only about 20,000 foreign professionals live and work in Korea (this excludes English teachers and factory…"

I'm planning to commit a Weekly Economic Slice to the topic in the next week or two as well, so stay tuned and please feel free to comment or even start your own discussions on the discussion board.

Cheers
